Description
This is a northern finch that comes south the odd winter when food supplies are low. I made many efforts to photograph them, but they were usually too high and against a grey sky. On a crisp and clear day I saw a few feeding right on my street and wasted no time photographing them.
As can be seen, the bill is curved, which allows them to open pine cones. This is the female.
